Nigerian Afro-fusion singer Buju today released his new EP Sorry I’m Late. The seven-track collection is available on all major streaming platforms(link is external).

The album follows his 2019 EP To Your Ears and his 2021 single ‘Outside’. This year also saw the musician featuring on well-received offerings such as Ladipoe’s ‘Feeling’, Blaqbonez’s ‘Bling’, Wizkid’s ‘Mood’ and Timaya’s ‘Cold Outside’.

“I wanted to make this one special for lovers of my sound,” Buju said. “Every track has its message, vibe and taste that will definitely evoke a unique feeling in every listener.

“My music pattern is quite distinct and I think it’s because I see myself as a mix of Burna Boy and 2Baba with a sprinkle of Khalid and Frank Ocean,” he said, adding that alot more music is coming.

Sorry I’m Late was produced by Timi Jay, Denzl, Steph, Perlz and Rexxie. The EP opens with ‘Daniel Benson’, which is Buju’s biological name. The track relies on modish Afro sound and finds its author reflecting on success and strength.

‘Never Stopped’ examines Buju’s challenges, while ‘Kilometer’, is fashioned around dance. Other songs on the project are ‘Something Sweet’ and ‘Ogechukwu’ is a dynamic feel-good mid-tempo track with music influences unique to South-Eastern Nigeria. The EP closes out with ‘For Here’ and ‘I Do’, the former promising faithfulness to a lover, while the latter listens as an admission of flaws and weaknesses.

Meanwhile, Buju is up for four awards at the upcoming All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMAs), which will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from 19 to 21 November.
