Amapiano: Ameno Remix Approaching 10 Billion Views On TikTok
Videos created with US-based Ghanaian music producer Nektunez’s remix of amapiano hit ‘Ameno’ featuring Nigeria's Goya Menor have garnered almost 10 billion views on TikTok, making it the most heard song on the video-sharing app.
The Chinese-owned platform shared the news in a video update on its social media channels.
Affectionately referred to as the ‘chilling with the big boys’ version, the global hit fuses samples of Era’s ‘Dori Me' and a mid-paced amapiano beat. Released on 16 June last year, the track quickly went viral on TikTok and became an anthem among fans who shared memes of it across Africa.
Commenting on the news, Nektunez reposted TikTok’s video on his Instagram page with the caption: “This is Super Amazing, 9.5 billion views on TikTok.”
The ‘Ameno’ remix has also made significant traction elsewhere, amassing more than 9.5 million views on YouTube.
Born Noble Eli Zogli, Nektunez has worked with top Ghanaian musicians such as Stonebwoy, Worlasi and R2Bees. In an exclusive interview with Nigerian publication Pulse, the producer said he had always believed in the song. He added that top record labels had reached out to him following the success of the hit and that he would soon make a big announcement, which would see him making history for Africa and the Afrobeats genre.
Amapiano, which originated in South Africa, has fast become a staple sound at clubs and events across Africa. The genre is now the biggest music movement in South Africa in terms of consumption.
